Arts and entertainment reports from The Times, national and international news services and the nation's press

“Pretty Woman” is strong in the home-video market, clinging to its No. 1 spot on the Billboard rental chart for another week. It’s under siege, however, from two of the strongest titles of the year--”The Hunt for Red October” (No. 2) and the Arnold Schwarzenegger blockbuster, “Total Recall,” which debuted at a mighty No. 3. Like “Pretty Woman,” “Recall” is available at a low $25, which will cut into its rentals since many fans will buy it instead. It’s likely that “Woman” will bask in the glory of No. 1 for a few more weeks before finally succumbing. “Miami Blues,” which did mild box-office business, is a red-hot rental, jumping from No. 29 to No. 8. Many fans are renting this one to further enjoy Alec Baldwin, whom they discovered in “Red October.”

* The unrated “Wild Orchid” (X-rated under the old system) debuted at No. 14. Starring Mickey Rourke and Jacqueline Bisset, this movie, featuring explicit sex scenes, was trashed by critics. To many of those who rent it, however, cinematic quality is irrelevant. Look for this one to crack the Top 10.
