2 O.C. Men Die in Separate Accidents

Two Orange County men died Wednesday in separate traffic accidents, authorities said.

Jack Rubin, 85, of Mission Viejo was fatally injured about 3 p.m. when he apparently tried to turn right onto Marguerite Parkway from Via Flores in Mission Viejo and was struck broadside by a Toyota pickup, police said.

Rubin was pronounced dead at the scene. His 80-year-old wife, Edith, was taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo with broken ribs and a fractured pelvis, police said. The driver of the pickup, Christopher Labar, 26, of Mission Viejo was also taken to Mission Hospital with a broken right wrist and back pain.

In the second accident, James Allen Miller, 60, of Costa Mesa died of an apparent heart attack after he rear-ended a car on the 17th Street on-ramp of the Costa Mesa Freeway in Santa Ana, police said.

Miller, who had gotten out of his car after the accident, collapsed on the on-ramp. Witnesses and police tried to resuscitate Miller. He was pronounced dead at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, police said.
