Sports Paper Trims Editorial Workers

The National, the 9-month-old daily sports newspaper, has laid off 18 editorial employees.
The layoffs amount to 6.5% of the company’s 275 workers.
The newspaper has encountered a very difficult environment for advertising as companies cut back on spending.
The layoffs are the latest evidence that the paper is having difficulty establishing itself with readers and advertisers.
