EAST ROUNDUP : Syracuse Surges for Win Over West Virginia, 31-7

Syracuse scored 24 points in the second quarter and cruised to a 31-7 victory over West Virginia Saturday at Morgantown, W. Va.

Quarterback Martin Graves passed for a touchdown and ran for another during the surge as the Orangemen improved to 6-3-2 and strengthened their chances for a bid to the Eagle Aloha Bowl.

West Virginia, which commited seven turnovers, dropped to 4-6, ensuring the Mountaineers’ first losing season since 1986.

Navy 31, Delaware 27--Navy (5-5) blew a 21-point lead but came back to beat the Blue Hens (6-5) at Annapolis, Md., on a five-yard touchdown pass play from Alton Grizzard to David Berghult with 51 seconds left.

Delaware quarterback Bill Vergantino completed 18 of 30 passes for 311 yards and two touchdowns.

Temple 29, Rutgers 22--Scott McNair gained 192 yards at Philadelphia to lead the Owls (6-4) over the Scarlet Knights (3-8) and ensure Temple of its first winning season since 1984.

Dartmouth 23, Princeton 6--Shon Page became the school’s single-season rushing leader as the Big Green (7-2-1, 6-1) won a share of the Ivy League title for the first time since 1982 with the victory over the Tigers (3-7, 2-5) at Princeton, N.J.

Page gained 146 yards in 33 carries and finished the season with 1,087 yards, breaking the record of 1,063 set last year by Dave Clark.

Cornell 21, Pennsylvania 15--The Big Red (7-3, 6-1) won a share of the Ivy League championship by defeating the Quakers (3-7, 3-4) at Ithaca, N.Y.

Yale 34, Harvard 19--Kevin Callahan scored two touchdowns as the Elis (6-4, 4-2) beat the Crimson (5-5, 3-4) at Cambridge, Mass., in the 107th meeting between the Ivy League rivals.

Brown 17, Columbia 0--The Bears (2-8, 2-5) dealt the Lions (1-9, 1-6) their 70th loss in 74 games in an Ivy League game at New York.
