Ellis, Owens Lead Syracuse Past USSR

SYRACUSE, N.Y. —
LeRon Ellis and Billy Owens each scored 23 points Monday night as Syracuse beat the Soviet Union national basketball team, 94-84.
Ellis had 15 rebounds and Owens added 13, and Dave Johnson scored 18 points for Syracuse.
Syracuse led, 65-48, with 14:21 left, but the Soviets ran off 14 consecutive points.
The Orangemen answered with a 14-4 run to put the game away.
Sergei Bazarevich scored 27 points for the Soviets, who finished their American tour at 2-6.
