Outfielder Eric Davis of the Cincinnati Reds underwent arthroscopic surgery to shave rough edges from the underside of his right kneecap.
Michael Lawhon, the Reds’ team physician, performed the surgery, and said he found evidence of minor damage to the kneecap’s underside.
“There was no major ligament or cartilage damage,” said Joe Kelley, a team spokesman.
Davis, 28, is still recovering from the kidney injury he suffered while diving for a ball during Game 4 of the World Series. The Reds said Davis is expected to be fully recovered from that injury by spring training.
