Venice : Pacific Parking to Improve

Share

The parking crunch in north Venice will be eased somewhat by the addition of 150 spaces on Pacific Avenue that will be available from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., City Councilwoman Ruth Galanter announced on Wednesday.

Galanter said the plan to turn the normally four-lane Pacific into a two-lane street after 6 p.m. gives the community the largest single addition of resident-oriented parking in a decade. The area was developed early in the century when the primary means of transportation for residents and visitors was the Pacific Electric Railway’s red cars. It was not thought necessary to provide off-street parking.

“The North Beach area is a great place to live but a horrible place to park,” Galanter said in a news release. She and city transportation officials unveiled signs with the new regulations on Wednesday.
