Police arrested a Whittier man in connection with a Los Angeles home burglary after a police sergeant questioned him regarding suspicious behavior.

Randal Harabedian, 26, was taken into custody about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday after the sergeant noticed him trying to open the back door of a local health club, police spokeswoman Cindy Knapp said.

Harabedian was being held in La Habra City Jail on $50,000 bail and is expected to be arraigned today on stolen car, concealed weapons and possession of stolen property charges, Knapp said.

She said that the sergeant was on patrol and stopped on La Habra Boulevard to confer with a fellow officer making a routine traffic stop.

Noticing that the health club across the street was extremely busy, the sergeant decided to cruise through the parking lot, Knapp said. Behind the club, he saw a man scale a wooden fence and then try to open the back door of the spa.

Checking the area, officers noticed a Chevy Blazer that had been reported stolen from a Los Angeles house earlier in the day. Harabedian was also carrying a watch that matched the description of one that had been reported stolen from the same location, Knapp said.
