Musicians Will Join Forces for CHOC Benefit

Orange County musicians will band together Monday evening in a benefit concert to aid the Children’s Hospital of Orange County. The “CHOC & Roll Christmas” show at the Anaheim Embassy Suites Hotel will feature Dem Horn Dogs, an 11-piece R&B; revue expanded to 20 members for the occasion. The newcomers include Bardeaux singer Melanie Taylor-Kimmel, Louie Louie keyboardist Dain Noel and a special guest vocalist, former Raiders offensive tackle Henry Lawrence.

Dem Horn Dogs performed at Orange’s International Street Fair in September.

The entertainment, facility, complimentary buffet service and other particulars are being donated, so 100% of the proceeds will go to CHOC, according to Kenny Karst, who is promoting the event with fellow Horn Dogs horn player Kenny Williams. Karst said about 300 of the 500 $10 tickets have been sold. Tickets are available through the CHOC development office, (714) 532-8675, and at the door.

“It was just a spontaneous thing,” Karst said. “We were just sitting around one day and decided we wanted to do something charitable for Christmas. Some of the horn members played for the children at CHOC, and it really opened our eyes.”

Karst said the band hopes to make the show an annual event. The show will start at 6 p.m. Monday (not Sunday, as was reported erroneously in Thursday’s OC Live! section). The Embassy Suites Hotel is at 3100 E. Frontera St., near the Glassell Street exit of the Riverside Freeway.
