Lois Mary Tyler; Retired Teacher

Lois Mary Tyler, who taught first and second grades at public schools in North Hollywood, has died at her North Hollywood home. She was 83.

Mrs. Tyler died Nov. 24 of cancer, said her daughter-in-law, Ann Tyler. Born Lois Mary Long on Oct. 24, 1907, in Chandler, Okla., she came to California in 1910. She graduated from Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles and earned a bachelor’s degree and a teaching credential from USC. She began teaching at Monlux Elementary School in the early 1940s, later moving to Fair Avenue School, where she retired in 1966. Mrs. Tyler was a member of the First Baptist Church of North Hollywood.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Cecil Tyler; sons Walter Tyler of Northridge and Ronald Tyler of Palos Verdes Estates; brother Lloyd Long of Westchester; seven grandchildren and a great-grandson.

A funeral was held Tuesday with burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills. Forest Lawn Mortuary, Hollywood Hills, handled the arrangements.
