It was guaranteed that a Carolina team would win at the Tournament of Champions Friday night at Charlotte, N.C., but most people figured that the winning team would be wearing North Carolina blue, not South Carolina red.

Michael Glover scored on a layup with eight seconds left and South Carolina celebrated the one-night renewal of arivalry with a 76-74 upset of No. 4 North Carolina.

George Lynch’s follow shot with 1:54 left gave the Tar Heels (2-1) a 72-68 lead. Joe Rhett made the first of two free throws with 1:07 left, but when he missed the second, the Gamecocks (3-1) got the rebound and Barry Manning made a three-point basket with 49 seconds left to make the score 72-72.
