9-Car Freeway Pileup Sends 3 to Hospital
Three people were hospitalized after a nine-car pileup Wednesday on the Artesia Freeway in Cerritos, authorities said.
A California Highway Patrol spokesman said the 2:30 p.m. accident may have been caused by a hit-and-run driver who witnesses said was speeding and making unsafe lane changes before fleeing.
The freeway’s westbound lanes, west of the San Gabriel River Freeway, were closed to allow paramedics to land a helicopter ambulance at the site and treat victims. Names of the injured were not immediately available.
