Folk Songs of the Season

A Yuletide concert filled with Christmas songs, Old World carols and seldom-heard winter holiday music may be your perfect entree into the holiday season.
Tuesday in Ojai, the folk trio Golden Bough will perform a holiday program that has been evolving since 1980, with new songs and melodies added each season.
The concert will include many rare songs and instrumental pieces from Ireland, Scotland and England, including sing-alongs and favorite Christmas carols.
“You won’t hear ‘Silent Night’ and the like,” said Becky Lowe, an Ojai folk concert producer. “They perform traditional Celtic folk music.”
The trio--Paul Espinoza, Florie Brown and Margie Butler--features two- and three-part harmonies and plays an array of instruments, including Celtic harp, violin, viola, mandolin, guitar, tin whistles, accordion and bodhran, a traditional Irish drum.
The 7:30 p.m. concert will be held at the Ojai Valley Woman’s Club, 441 E. Ojai Ave., Ojai. Tickets are $9.
