SHORT TAKES : Monroe’s Nuptial Paper for Sale
Marilyn Monroe’s Jewish marriage contract with American playwright Arthur Miller will be sold in London Dec. 20, auctioneers Christie’s said Thursday.
The “kettubah” records the marriage in 1956 between the author of “Death of a Salesman” and the sex symbol who wanted to be taken seriously as an actress.
The certificate, decorated in the style of an illuminated manuscript, is expected to fetch up to $16,000.
Monroe converted to Judaism after the marriage, which was her third and Miller’s second, and lasted until they were divorced in 1961. She committed suicide the following year.
