From Times Wire Services

Vandals spray-painted graffiti on the home of John Hatcher, president of the NAACP’s Ventura County chapter, in what the community activist called a racist hate crime.

Hatcher said he spotted the slur sprayed in 2-foot-tall black lettering on his garage as he left for work early Thursday.

“I was angry,” said Hatcher, adding he has received death threats by phone and mail in recent months. “It’s an attack on me personally, or my family, or my race.”

Police today said the incident was under investigation.

Hatcher, 59, has led the county chapter of the National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People for 10 years.
