Long Beach Women Beaten by Pacific in NCAA Volleyball
Defending national champion Cal State Long Beach was eliminated from the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament late Saturday night, losing to Pacific, 15-8, 16-14, 14-16, 15-6, in the Northwest Regional final at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu.
The 49er women, who finished 27-9, had leads of 13-8 and 14-12 in the second game before losing. “Losing that second game was the key,” said Long Beach Coach Brian Gimmallaro.
The 49ers had advanced to the regional final with a 15-11, 8-15, 15-13, 15-13 upset victory over host Hawaii Friday night.
Pacific advances to the NCAA Final Four next Thursday at College Park, Md. The Lady Tigers will play Nebraska, while UCLA meets Louisiana State in the other semifinal.
