San Diego
A San Diego man was hospitalized with head injuries after being beaten with a baseball bat Monday morning as he went to pay his rent, police said.
Rosendo Garcia was attacked by a man with a baseball bat about 9 a.m. outside his upholstery shop in the 3000 block of Market Street, police spokesman Bill Robinson said. He was listed in critical condition Monday night at UC San Diego Medical Center.
Garcia was walking next door to pay his landlord. Police believe robbery was the motive, since Garcia’s wallet was missing. A relative told police that Garcia may have been carrying as much as $1,500.
Police recovered the baseball bat, but no one has been arrested.
