Sports News Network Stops Broadcasting
Sports News Network has closed up shop, less than a year after it started, and there are reports that it might reopen next year in Atlanta under new ownership.
SNN, owned by Mizlou Communications Co., stopped broadcasting at 3 p.m. Monday, a switchboard operator said.
SNN, with headquarters in Edison, N.J., began operations last February. On Dec. 11, Mizlou reached preliminary agreement to sell SNN to Landmark Communications Inc., which operates the Weather Channel, and TeleCable Corporation for up to $39.5 million.
There were unconfirmed reports that Landmark might go through with the purchase and, using SNN’s studio equipment and transponder lease, reopen under a similar format in Atlanta.
Several calls to Landmark Communications headquarters in Norfolk, Va., were not returned.
