The Anaheim Firefighters Assn. has received the 1990 Overachiever Award for work on behalf of local charities.

The Orange County Firemen’s Assn. recognized the union for providing volunteers and raising $28,700 for various charities, including $16,600 to benefit people with muscular dystrophy, $4,000 for the Anaheim Senior Center and $1,500 for children’s sports programs.

In addition, two firefighters received special recognition.

Capt. Timothy Butler, also a paramedic, was honored for improving safety for his fellow firefighters. Butler, an 11-year veteran of the force, has helped design rookie training programs, teaches ladder operations at the county Fire Academy and teaches CPR classes in the community.
