Long Beach : Bigger Financial Bite Put on Hosts of Noisy Parties
Hosts of noisy parties in Long Beach may soon have to pay more money for their entertainment than they reckoned on. The City Council last week passed a resolution aimed at clarifying a 1987 city ordinance. Now the ordinance allows the city to bill loud party-goers up to $1,000 for whatever it costs the city to shut them up.
The city had previously used the 1987 law for accidents involving drugs and alcohol. The city has routinely charged drunk drivers for costs of the police, fire and ambulance response to the accident, according to Deputy City Atty. Robert Shannon.
Under the ordinance, hosts of noisy parties will be given one warning to silence their raucous festivities or face a bill for whatever it costs the city to send officers back a second time.
