Obituaries : John V. Bowyer; Cardiologist, Researcher

Dr. John V. Bowyer, a cardiologist with Kaiser Permanente in Panorama City and former researcher for the National Institutes of Health, has died of a brain tumor. He was 60.

Bowyer died Friday at his residence, said his wife, Barbara.

Born in Oct. 10, 1930, in New York City, Bowyer moved with his family to Roanoke, Va., and later practiced in Hopewell, Va., for 11 years. Bowyer was a research fellow at the NIH in 1965 and also served as a staff cardiologist there from 1969 to 1971.

In 1971, he moved to Los Angeles and joined Kaiser Permanente.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Barbara, sons John Spotswood Bowyer, Carter Burwell Bowyer and John Randolph Bowyer, and daughters Rebecca Randolph Bacon and Katherine Fleming Bowyer.

A funeral is scheduled at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, 7136 Winnetka Ave., Canoga Park.

Lorenzen Mortuary in Reseda is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Martin-in-the-Fields.
