Ember From Chimney Sparks $500,000 Fire
Fire caused by a smoking ember gutted a two-story house in Hidden Hills on Wednesday afternoon, causing an estimated $500,000 damage, Los Angeles County fire officials said.
The fire started about 2:30 p.m. in the 5300 block of Jed Smith Road, apparently when a smoking ember from the house’s fireplace landed on its wood-shingle roof, said Fire Department spokesman William Blackburn.
No injuries were reported.
