Angels Renew Pursuit of Gaetti

The Angels’ pursuit of free-agent third baseman Gary Gaetti has resumed following the holiday break. Club President Richard Brown said Wednesday he expects to talk with Gaetti’s agent, Jim Bronner of Chicago, this week to determine Gaetti’s receptiveness to the four-year, $10.8 million offer made by the Angels several weeks ago.

Bronner has said that Gaetti favors the Angels and Minnesota Twins over other teams that have shown interest. Gaetti, 32, was one of 15 players granted free agency in the latest collusion settlement. He has until Jan. 29 to sign with a new team or sign a new contract with the Twins.

“I’m not convinced Gary Gaetti wants to leave Minnesota, but if he does I think we have a good shot,” Brown said. “I’m very interested in getting Gary Gaetti.”
