It’s possible the California Angels will move their spring training headquarters to Florida during the 1990s, but the team’s director of operations said today that he hopes something can be worked out in Arizona.

“We’ve put in a lot of time and had a lot of discussions with the City of Gilbert (Ariz.),” Kevin Uhlich told the Associated Press. “We would love to come to an agreement with Gilbert, we really would.

“The bottom line is the money and where it would come from. That seems to be the biggest obstacle right now. The Florida communities are willing to offer the baseball team a deal that would be all-encompassing, but we’d rather train in Arizona. It’s an unresolved issue right now.”

The Riverside Press-Enterprise reported in its editions today that the Angels had all but abandoned hope of remaining in the Cactus League and had quietly begun soliciting training camp offers from Florida sites.
