Despite recent declines in home prices, the assessed value of properties statewide increased in the 1990-91 fiscal year at the highest rate since 1982-83. The 11.7% gain reflects sales completed between March 1989 and February 1990.

Because most properties are reassessed only when they are sold, the impact of price increases over the last few years will continue to be felt as those properties change hands.

Orange County’s 11.7% gain puts it among the majority of the state’s 58 counties, 30 of which posted gains of 10% or more.
