Montreal defenseman Jean-Jacques Daigneault, who rarely scores, got a goal and two assists in leading the Canadiens to a 6-3 victory over the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins Sunday night.

It was the first goal of the season for Daigneault, who has dressed for only 20 games. “My morale was always good--I’m a positive person,” said the 25-year-old Daigneault, whose three points were a career high for his six NHL seasons. “I knew I’d get a chance to play again and I took advantage of it.”

Guy Carbonneau had two goals and Stephan Lebeau, Eric Desjardins and Brent Gilchrist also scored as Montreal (22-17-5) won its third consecutive game and second in as many nights. The Canadiens shut out the Quebec Nordiques, 3-0, Saturday.
