COLLEGE BASKETBALL WCC ROUNDUP : Fehte Gets First Victory at St. Mary’s
St. Mary’s won its first game for new Coach Dave Fehte, overcoming two ties to defeat Gonzaga, 83-75, Friday night in a West Coast Conference game at Moraga.
Fehte, the Gaels’ former assistant, took over when Paul Landreaux resigned Jan. 3.
Gonzaga (9-5, 0-1) scored 12 consecutive points to tie the score, 63-63, but St. Mary’s (5-10, 1-1) then went on a 14-6 run to take a 77-69 lead with 1:45 left.
USF 85, Portland 79--At San Francisco, the Pilots (2-10, 0-1) came back from a 10-point halftime deficit to take a 77-74 lead before the Dons (9-6, 2-0) mounted a final drive to extend Portland’s losing streak to eight games.
