In other boys’ basketball games:

Kennedy 53, El Camino Real 51 (OT)--Shahlen Talesh made a layup at the buzzer to lead visiting Kennedy past El Camino Real in a Northwest Valley Conference game.

El Camino Real trailed by four points at the end of three periods, but went ahead by one early in the fourth. With the score tied, 49-49, Kennedy (8-8, 1-2) missed an opportunity to win in regulation when Athesis Harris, a 6-foot-4 senior center who scored a game-high 18 points, missed a short jump shot with two seconds to play.

El Camino Real (7-6, 0-3) scored the first two points of the overtime period, but Kennedy scored four points on its next possession.

Kalin Green and Clyde Price had 13 points each for El Camino Real.

Taft 74, San Fernando 45--James Wade scored 19 points, had 15 rebounds and blocked six shots, and Eric Dafney scored 17 points to lead Taft (11-4, 3-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at home.

Wade, a 6-3 senior, scored 12 points and had 10 rebounds in the third quarter. Taft outscored San Fernando, 16-4, in that quarter.

Grant 60, Poly 50--David Knight scored 16 points and Brunell Mori added 13 to help host Grant (12-2, 6-0) remain undefeated in East Valley League play.

Poly (3-9, 2-3) led by two at halftime and was paced by Steve McCann with 13 points.

Canoga Park 53, North Hollywood 52--Guard Alvin Edington hit a free throw with 22 seconds left to give Canoga Park (6-11, 3-4) a six-point lead, and then the Hunters held off a furious North Hollywood rally to score the upset at home.

North Hollywood forward Fernando Orozco scored five points in the closing seconds to make the final score close. Junior guard Robert Hill had 18 points and eight assists for the Huskies (9-6, 5-2).

Monroe 86, Van Nuys 62--Elmer Singh scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and teammate Lodis Woodmore added 14 points and seven assists to lead Monroe (10-6, 3-4) in a Mid-Valley League game at home. The 10 wins equal the Vikings’ combined win total over the past four seasons.

Palmdale 67, Quartz Hill 65--Kalonji Young scored on a pass from Jason Grimes with five seconds left to give Palmdale (11-6, 2-1) an upset Golden League win.

Grimes scored 25 points and grabbed 20 rebounds for Palmdale, which played without leading scorer Chris DeGlopper (17 points a game). Chris Young had 31 points for Quartz Hill (13-4, 2-1).

Thousand Oaks 79, Royal 74 (OT)--Chris Loll scored a game-high 35 points and scored six of the Lancers’ 10 points in overtime. Loll also had 13 rebounds and blocked six shots for Thousand Oaks (11-3, 2-2). Andrew Borg added 17 points for Thousand Oaks.

Simi Valley 71, Agoura 63--Mike Crawford scored 20 points and Danny Alexander had 17 to lead the Pioneers (7-8, 2-2) to a Marmonte League victory at Agoura. Tim Jaqua added 12 points for Simi Valley, which led 35-24 at halftime.

David Siegel led Agoura (8-4, 2-2) with 13 points, and Eddie Corridori and Dennis Fowler scored 12 each.

Westlake 47, Newbury Park 46--Esau Blanco scored the game-winning points on an offensive rebound with eight seconds to play to give Westlake (5-8, 2-2) a Marmonte League win.

Blanco finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Newbury Park is 4-8 and 0-4 in league play.

Buena 73, Rio Mesa 65--Junior guard Lance Fay had 25 points and added five assists to lead the Bulldogs at Rio Mesa. Senior center Matt Egan added a career-high 20 points, with six of those points coming in the third quarter, when the Bulldogs turned a one-point halftime lead into a nine-point bulge at the end of the quarter.

Guard Gary Bellman had 23 points to lead Rio Mesa.

Hart 83, Burbank 66--Marty Downen scored 24 points to lead the Indians (11-5, 2-0) to a Foothill League victory at Burbank.

Harvard 97, La Salle 67--Harvard raced to a 13-point lead after the first period in a San Fernando League game at Harvard. Iheanyi Uwaezuoke led Harvard (12-3, 3-0) with 18 points and teammate Andres Carlos had 11 points, eight steals and nine rebounds.

Thirteen Harvard players scored.

Glendale 56, Crescenta Valley 47--Mike Wright scored eight points, had 10 rebounds, six assists and six blocked shots, and Jerry Armen added 17 points to lead Glendale in a Pacific League win.

Glendale (11-5, 2-0) led throughout the game and held a 30-24 advantage at halftime. Glendale’s leading scorer, Jason Harper (who averages 16 points a game), got into early foul trouble and was held to 10 points.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

North Hollywood 79, Canoga Park--Jacinda Sweet scored 25 points, had nine rebounds, nine steals and five assists to lead host North Hollywood (14-3, 7-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.

North Hollywood held Canoga Park (4-3 in conference play) to seven points or less in each of the first three quarters.

Glendale 71, Crescenta Valley 50--Tracy Young scored 30 points and had 10 rebounds, and Jennifer Dalton added 27 points for Glendale (10-5, 2-0) in a Pacific League game at Crescenta Valley.

Van Nuys 80, Monroe 28--Cicely Brewster had 17 points and 12 rebounds for host Van Nuys in a Mid-Valley League game.
