Caltech Professor Gets Literature Honors
John Sutherland, professor of literature at Caltech, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature of the United Kingdom, an honor given to English-speaking writers who have published books of high literary standards.
Sutherland is an author, essayist and literary critic who has written on Victorian literature, contemporary popular fiction, and the history of printers and publishing. His most recent book is “Mrs Humphry Ward: Eminent Victorian, Pre-Eminent Edwardian,” a biography of a Victorian writer.
