City Weighs Movie Filming Limit

Share

The Palos Verdes Estates City Council last week introduced an ordinance limiting motion picture filming at private residences to one time per year. If the ordinance is adopted as expected at the next council meeting, it will become effective Feb. 23.

Motion picture companies have been required since 1988 to obtain a permit before filming in the city. But city officials have reported a growing number of complaints about frequent filmings at some homes.

A staff report noted that in 1990 two homes were used three times each as film locations. Often the filming continues well into the night and is disruptive to the quiet Palos Verdes Estates neighborhoods, the report said.

City officials said the new ordinance will not limit the number of days for each filming permit. They said a typical shoot lasts from one to three days.
