The Sidelines : Sullivan Award Finalists Named
Speedskater Bonnie Blair and and Notre Dame All-American football player Raghib “Rocket” Ismail are among the 10 finalists for the AAU James E. Sullivan Award as the nation’s finest amateur athlete.
Blair holds five U.S. National Sprint Championship titles, and Ismail was runner-up in last year’s Heisman Trophy balloting.
The other finalists, announced today, are swimmer Michael Barrowman; basketball player Teresa Edwards; boxer Eric Griffin; distance runner Lynn Jennings; pentathlete Lori Norwood; wrestler John Smith; figure skater Jill Trenary and skier Donna Weinbrecht.
The recipient of the award will be announced March 11 in Indianapolis.
