‘Pretty’ Decision: Publisher Acuff-Rose’s copyright infringement lawsuit against 2 Live Crew has been dismissed by a federal judge in Nashville. The music publishing firm sued Luke Records owner Luther Campbell in June for unauthorized use of Roy Orbison’s composition “Pretty Woman,” but U.S. District Thomas A. Wiseman ruled Monday that the rap group’s version was a parody. “In sum, 2 Live Crew is an anti-Establishment rap group,” Wiseman said. “This song derisively demonstrates how bland and banal the Orbison song seems to them.”
