Kearny’s Scott, Allan Plan to Play at SDSU

Receiver Darnay Scott and lineman Joe Allan, both from Kearny High School, have orally committed to play football at San Diego State.

The signing of Scott should elicit smiles from the SDSU coaching staff because he was near the top of their wish list. Scott, 6-3, 185 pounds, caught 38 passes this season for 790 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also had 11 interceptions as a defensive back.

“Best player I’ve ever coached in 16 years,” said Kearny Coach Willie Matson. “A big, big-play receiver. Exceptional speed and hands who can flat-out fly.”

Scott won the 200-meter dash last spring in the CIF San Diego Section track and field championships and finished second in the 100-meter dash.

He had scheduled visits to Arizona State this weekend and Ohio State the following weekend, but decided he wanted to play for the Aztecs.

Allan, 6-feet-6, 268 pounds, played offensive and defensive line in high school but said the Aztecs recruited him as a defensive lineman.

SDSU has now received oral commitments from at least seven high school players and has signed two community college players to national letters of intent. The first day high school players can sign national letters is Feb. 6.
