Three weekend gang shootings in northeast Los Angeles resulted in one death and one injury.

John Galinato, 20, of Atwater Village was shot and killed about 3:30 a.m. Sunday. He was driving north on Glendale Boulevard when another vehicle pulled up behind him at Brunswick Avenue. Someone inside fired a shotgun, hitting him in the head and upper body.

Galinato was taken by paramedics to Glendale Memorial Hospital where he died about 6:50 p.m., police said.

Police Detective Ron Whitt said he believes rival gang members were responsible for the shooting. None of seven gang members with Galinato at the time of the shooting would cooperate with police, he said.

“They said they knew who shot him, and they would take care of it,” Whitt said.

In a separate incident, a 15-year-old girl was shot at while walking in the 4600 block of Figueroa Street near Sycamore Grove Park in the Mt. Washington area Friday night.

Detective Joe Friend said the girl was approached by three men in a black vehicle and asked to say where she was from.

Although she said she was not a gang member, the men drove on, turned around, approached again and shot at her four to six times, grazing her on the right thigh, Friend said. She was treated at the scene and released.

Friend said the victim believed the suspects were local gang members.

In a third gang incident, on Saturday night, suspected gang members shot at a group of party-goers outside a residence in the 4300 block of York Boulevard in Eagle Rock.

Police said six men in a red vehicle shouted a gang name and fired four shots at a group in the front yard. No injuries were reported. Police have no suspects.
