Steve Kemp, an 11-year major leaguer and a baseball All-American at USC, has been named baseball coach at Woodbridge High School, Athletic Director Dave Cowen said Wednesday.

Kemp replaces Johnny Ceballos, who was suspended one season for violating Southern Section rules by working with players in the off-season. Cowen said Ceballos is working as an assistant coach at UC Irvine this spring and is free to return to Woodbridge next season.

Kemp, an outfielder, hit 130 home runs and batted .278 during his major league career with Detroit, the Chicago White Sox, the New York Yankees, Pittsburgh and Texas.

Woodbridge also hired Alan Dugard as softball coach. Dugard, a former player at Loyola Marymount and a retired Air Force colonel, has coached several American Softball Assn. teams in the Irvine area. He replaces Eric Bangs, who is on a one-year leave of absence.
