3 Teen-Age Boys Booked in Arson Fire at School

Police have booked three 13-year-old boys on suspicion of arson in connection with a Sunday fire that caused about $500,000 worth of damage at Northrup Elementary School in Alhambra.

Two of the boys attend Northrup and the third goes to Park Elementary School, also in the Alhambra City School District. Their names are being withheld because of their age, said Alhambra Police Detective Bruce Dow.

Officers arrested them at school after “these three names kept surfacing” during the investigation, Dow said. One of the suspects reportedly confessed to a school administrator. None of the children have previous felony arrests, Dow said. One had been a runaway and another a habitual truant, he added.
