In another Garden Grove League game:

La Quinta 80, Pacifica 78--Stan Wada’s three-point basket at the buzzer gave host La Quinta the victory. Sophomore Brad Huss had 26 points and 13 rebounds for La Quinta (6-12, 3-6). Kevin Gaughen had 26 for Pacifica (11-6, 7-2).

In the Orange League:

Anaheim 70, Western 64--Visiting Anaheim scored 15 of its 27 points in the fourth quarter on free throws and handed fourth-ranked Western its first league loss. Frank Madrid had 27 points for Anaheim (11-8, 4-2). Steve Siefken had 23 for Western (17-2, 5-1).


Valencia 56, Magnolia 52--Mark O’Brien scored 16 points and Adolfo Gomez added 15 for visiting Valencia.

Brea-Olinda 55, Savanna 49--Jeff Roeser scored 14 points and Doug Yeo 13 for visiting Brea-Olinda (8-1, 3-3).

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 48, Saddleback 44--Jason Clark’s three-point basket with 1:30 left put host Corona del Mar (11-11, 4-2) ahead, 43-39, and the Sea Kings held on at home. Jon Upham had a game-high 26 points. Jason Register had 18 points for Saddleback (9-12, 3-3).


Newport Harbor 41, Woodbridge 40--Huy Nguyen of Newport Harbor made both ends of a one-and-one with 20 seconds left to give host Newport Harbor (10-11, 2-4) the victory. Woodbridge’s Mike Fenton made a three-pointer with 40 seconds left to give the Warriors a 40-39 lead. Woodbridge had two more chances to take the lead after Nguyen’s free throws but missed each time. Tustin 112, University 72--University led, 15-13, but Tustin (18-3, 5-1) scored 31, 36 and 32 points in the next three quarters to win easily. Brian Reider scored 23 points, David Beilstein 20, Derek Roche 20 and Thomas Clayton 15 for Tustin. University is 7-13, 0-6.

In the Olympic League:

Orange Lutheran 70, Ayala 65--Jeff Courvoisier scored 11 points for Orange Lutheran (9-10, 6-3).

In the Academy League:

St. Michael’s Prep 60, Cal Lutheran 59--Trailing, 60-58, and no time left, Cal Lutheran’s Matt Beyersdorf made the first of two free-throws but missed the second. Beyersdorf scored 27 points and teammate Brad Pluckhan 21.

Whittier Christian 83, Ontario Christian 60--Ruben Oronoz scored 16 points, 12 in the first half, for host Whittier Christian (9-10, 6-3).
