El Toro 80, Mission Viejo 79 (2 OT)--The second overtime, during which El Toro took the lead and kept it, was somewhat uneventful compared to the fourth quarter and the first overtime.
Bill Denny’s 10-footer with four seconds left tied it at 66 at the end of regulation. And El Toro’s Rob Johnson hit a 27-foot, three-pointer with four seconds left in the first overtime to erase a 71-68 deficit.
Jeff Carr’s free throw brought Mission Viejo to within 78-77 in the second overtime, but Jeremy Hogue made two for El Toro to make it 80-77. After two Mission Viejo free throws, El Toro inbounded to Johnson, who was fouled with two seconds left. He missed the front end of a one-and-one, but Mission Viejo could not get the ball back up court in time for a shot.
Johnson and Darren Doalson each scored 19 points for El Toro (10-11, 2-5). Denny scored 25 for Mission Viejo (5-17, 0-7).
Irvine 55, San Clemente 46--John Molle scored 22 points and Jado Lee added 15 for host Irvine (20-2, 7-0). San Clemente led, 26-21, at the half but scored only four field goals in the second half as Irvine rallied.
