El Camino 70, Carlsbad 63--The Wildcats (14-3, 7-1) were led by Shaun Scurry’s 26 points and 11 rebounds, Bryant Westbrook’s 13 points and 10 rebounds and Heath McCoy’s 14 points. Third-ranked El Camino shot 28 of 31 from the free-throw line. Carlsbad (5-3), led by Calvin Coleman’s 21 points, pulled within seven in the second half.

Escondido 67, Rancho Bernardo 57--Damian Cephas led Escondido (5-10, 3-5) with 35 points. Quoc Huynh scored 14 points and Mike Frank added 13 points and 12 rebounds for Escondido. Greg Hanson and David Santos each scored 13 points, and Bill McMahon added 12 for Rancho Bernardo.

Palomar League

Vista 91, Mt. Carmel 88--Jason Barnes scored 35 points for the Panthers (7-11, 3-5) as they upset second-ranked Mt. Carmel (14-5, 4-4). Nils Michals added 20 points and Chris Johnson scored 18 for Vista. Ryan Wootton scored 22 and Jon Young scored 21 to lead Mt. Carmel. Vista led, 52-50, at halftime.

Poway 68, Rancho Buena Vista 67--Darryl Parker and two Poway players went for the ball on an alley-oop play with eight seconds remaining and Parker was called for an offensive foul. Frank Garrett made two free-throws to make it 68-64. Parker scored 16 points and Brad Grubaugh scored 29 for RBV (9-10, 4-4). Fifth-ranked Poway led by 12 in the second quarter and trailed by three in the fourth. The Titans (12-4, 6-2) got 26 points from Matt Fletcher, 19 from Kyle Milling.

Fallbrook 67, Torrey Pines 59--Chris Miller scored 28 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead Fallbrook (12-8, 5-3) over seventh-ranked Torrey Pines (15-6, 5-3). Bob Nolan scored 17 and had nine rebounds. Dan Reynaga scored 19 for Torrey Pines, Scot Pollard scored 11.

San Dieguito 75, Orange Glen 61--Sean Howard scored 22 and Matt de la Pena added 16 to lead San Dieguito. James Parker led visiting Orange Glen with 25.

City Eastern League

Mira Mesa 61, Patrick Henry 50--Quantell Donigan and Ngai Allen each scored 12 points for Mira Mesa (11-8, 2-2) and Mike Phillips added 10. John Pike led Patrick Henry (5-11, 0-3) with 24 points, including four three-pointers. Mira Mesa led, 30-26, at halftime.

Morse 68, Point Loma 43--Jaamar Lavender had 14 points and Gary Taylor 13 as ninth-ranked Morse outscored the Pointers, 20-9, in the first quarter. The Tigers improved to 2-1, 11-6. Eddie Greer had 17 points and Justin Miller 15 for Point Loma (1-2, 3-15).

Metro League

Sweetwater 72, Mar Vista 52--Melvin Rushing scored a game-high 20 to lead host Sweetwater, ranked No. 10. Mendel Nafarrete added 13. Jim Gruber led Mar Vista with 17.

Southwest 65, Hilltop 64--Toby Limjoco hit a 15-foot baseline shot right before the buzzer to lift visiting Southwest (14-7, 8-2). Hilltop’s Courteney Brown, who finished with 18 points, sank a basket to give the Lancers a 64-63 lead. Southwest called timeout, moved the ball the length of the floor and Devin Patterson threw it to Limjoco, who scored. Jerry Racette led the Raiders with 23 points. Hilltop’s Chris White and Carlos Marquez had 19 each.

Chula Vista 77, Montgomery 52--Only six players scored for Chula Vista, but four of them supplied a minimum of 15 points: Jerome Green (24), Andy Duran (16), Shane Howell (15) and Donnie Edwards (15, 10 rebounds). The Spartans improved to 12-9, 6-3; Montgomery dropped to 5-13, 3-6.

Santana 60, West Hills 54--Doug Schultz scored 20 points and Chad Barry scored 18 to lead Santana (4-14, 1-4). West Hills got 18 points from Mike Campbell. The Wolf Pack made just nine of 22 from the free-throw line.

Bonita Vista 74, Castle Park 52--Mike Barnett scored 21 points for Bonita Vista (13-5, 7-3). Rope Perry scored 13 and David Rusk added 12 for Bonita Vista. Eric Bell led Castle Park with 16 points.

Grossmont 3-A League

Helix 52, Monte Vista 46--Helix (14-6, 4-0) survived despite converting only six of 15 fourth-quarter free throws. Lloyd Lake led Helix with 13. Monte Vista’s Aaron Elliot led all scorers with 18.

Grossmont 2-A

Valhalla 77, Grossmont 62--Mark Dillon scored 12 of his 18 points in a 32-9 fourth-quarter spurt to give Valhalla (17-6, 4-0) the victory and sole possession of first place. Four other Norsemen scored in double figures, Cole Deneen (18), Mike Nalu (17), Matt Marsh (10) and Mike Pettigrew (10). Grossmont (13-6, 3-1) got 15 from Mike Kingsley and 14 each from Jean Beauville and Ryan Gregory.

City Western League

Kearny 75, La Jolla 58--Fourth-ranked Kearny, which played 17 of its first 19 on the road, took advantage of the home court. John Lam scored 14 points on free throws, and Kearny made good on 25 of 30 free throws. Darnay Scott led the Komets (15-5, 3-1) with 15 points. Teammates Mike Oviedo and Lam added 14. Craig Woodall supplied a game-high 20 for La Jolla.

City Central

Hoover 55, Madison 54--Madison led, 54-53, with less than a minute to play. Hoover’s Roger Blake missed the front end of a one-on-one, Madison gained possession but turned it over immediately. Jim Morgans scored the winning basket with five seconds remaining. Blake led all scorers with 24 points. Hoover improved to 9-6, 2-1; Madison fell to 8-8, 1-3.

Harbor League

St. Augustine 64, Marian 42--Sophomore Aaron Buckner led St. Augustine (9-10, 1-2) with 18 points. Matt Kenney scored 12 points on four three-pointers, five assists and three steals for St. Augustine.

Christian 79, Clairemont 67--Clairemont overcame a 12-point deficit and trailed, 36-35, at halftime. This victory gives Christian (3-0) sole possession of first place in the league dropping Clairemont (7-8, 3-1) to second. Chad DeGrenier scored 20 points and Dave Piester scored 18 for Christian. Alex Love scored 28 points and Craig Mounier scored 10 for Clairemont.

Nonleague

Serra 79, Crawford 42--Serra held Crawford to 21 points through the first three quarters and improved to 11-4. Tony Etheridge led the Conquistadors with 20 points and eight rebounds.

Mission Bay 71, Coronado 66--Rick Moe had a season-high 26 points, including six three-pointers, and John Price had 19 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots as the Bucaneers improved to 4-13. Adam Smith led Coronado (4-14) with 25 points and five three-pointers.

El Cajon 74, El Capitan 69 (OT)--El Cajon pulled it out in overtime despite a 33-point effort by El Capitan’s Chris Peace. Mike Harris led visiting El Cajon (6-12) with 21.
