Taper Foundation Gives $1 Million to Clinic
When the new Hollywood Health Center is dedicated today, the Mark Taper Foundation will present a $1-million grant to the Los Angeles Free Clinic for operation of the facility to assist the growing number of homeless and runaway teen-agers in the area.
Gary Bess, executive director of the Free Clinic, credited the donation--the largest single gift ever received by the clinic--with bringing the health center, at 6043 Hollywood Blvd., to the final phase of implementation.
The United Way estimates there are up to 4,000 homeless and runaways in the Hollywood area, with 300 additional arriving daily.
