Kevin Conway, who created the leading role of Larry the Liquidator Garfinkle in the Off Broadway hit “Other People’s Money,” will repeat it in the Pasadena Playhouse production which he will also direct. It opens March 24, with previews starting March 15.
Conway, who won the Outer Critics Circle Award for his performance in the Jerry Sterner satirical comedy, staged a production of it in Chicago, but this Playhouse outing marks the first time that he will simultaneously act in it and direct it.
Before starring as the corporate takeover artist Garfinkle, Conway played the title role in the New York Shakespeare Festival’s “King John” and received critical acclaim for his performance as Dr. Frederick Treves in the original Off Broadway and Broadway productions of “The Elephant Man,” as well as on ABC’s “Theater of the Month.”
Among other stage roles, he played George in Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men” (opposite James Earl Jones) and the sociopathic Teddy in “When You Comin’ Back Red Ryder?” which earned him an Obie and a Drama Desk Award. He re-created the role at the Westwood Playhouse in 1975.
