Habitat Founder to Talk at Church

Millard Fuller, executive director of Habitat for Humanity International, will be the guest speaker Friday at 8 p.m. at Geneva Presbyterian Church in Laguna Hills.

Fuller founded Habitat for Humanity in 1976. It is a Christian organization that provides housing for low-income families.

Admission to the lecture is free.

On Sunday for the next two weeks, the Adult Education Hour will feature the Rev. Charles Jester, former chaplain at the American Embassy in Moscow. His topic will be “Thirty Months of Glasnost.”

The Center for Spiritual Development is offering a program called “A Day of Prayer for Senior Citizens” on Feb. 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Victor O’ Donovan will lead the group.

Registration is required by Feb. 9, and there is a $25 charge, which includes lunch.

“Friday Night Gospel Live” features gospel music and testimonies at the Marriott Hotel in Fullerton on Friday from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Betty Poydras and her acting group will perform “God’s Trombones.”

The Laguna Beach United Methodist Church is offering an Active Parenting Class that meets every Sunday evening at 6:30 for six weeks, beginning Sunday.

Marilyn Boyd, director of the Wesley Counseling Center, teaches the course.

In celebration of Christian unity, the United Methodist Church of Garden Grove will host the congregations, choirs and clergy of three Garden Grove churches Sunday at 7 p.m.

Participating are St. Anselm’s of Canterbury Episcopal Church, St. Columban’s Roman Catholic Church and First Presbyterian Church.

Father Eamon O’Gorman, pastor of St. Columban’s, will deliver the sermon. The Rev. J. Miles Acker Jr. is pastor of the host church.

The offering will be used to support Real Help of Garden Grove, a group of churches, agencies and individuals who give food to the homeless.

Mesa Verde United Methodist Church will present two special services Sunday as part of a celebration of United Methodist women. The Rev. Gwen Ehrenborg of Spurgeon United Methodist Church will present a dramatization from the life of Susanna Wesley.

Guest speaker Gilberto Aguirre Escobar will discuss “What in the World Is Going On . . . in Nicaragua?” at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Mark Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach.

He is the executive director of the Nicaraguan Council of Churches and is an authority on the needs of Nicaraguan Christians in a changing society.

The First Presbyterian Church, 601 N. Sycamore St., Santa Ana, is offering a three-week Adult Education class called “Life in the Transition Lane.”

Taught by Roger Johnson, the class begins Sunday at 9:40 a.m. and is intended to teach students how to make changes in their lives.

Also, a three-day weekend retreat is planned, beginning Feb. 22, at Rancho del Cielo Conference Center.

Wayne McKibben, Presbyterian pastor and consultant to the Presbytery of Los Ranchos for Spiritual Disciplines, will lead the group.

“Be Still and Know that I Am God,” is the retreat’s theme.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church’s adult education class will focus on helping those in need. Scott Naramore, Good Shepherd Outreach Ministry member, will conduct the class, which meets Sunday from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m.
