Bomb Threat Leads to Evacuation of Bank

The headquarters office of Glendale Federal Bank was partly evacuated Friday while a Los Angeles County sheriff’s bomb squad destroyed a suspicious parcel in a trash bin next to the building.
The three-hour evacuation began with an anonymous bomb threat called in to the bank about 10:30 a.m., Glendale Police Sgt. Pete Michael said. Police found nothing during an initial search of the building at Brand Boulevard and Lexington Drive in Glendale’s financial district.
A second search began after a second threat one hour later, Michael said. Police found a small newspaper-wrapped cylinder in a dumpster near the building, he said. Members of the bomb squad attached an explosive device called a disarmer to the parcel and detonated it. It did not contain explosives.
