A suspected drug trafficker ran from police at Lindbergh Field on Monday and injured three policemen before they could wrestle him to the ground and handcuff him, authorities said.

Michael Angelo Lena, 32, allegedly knocked out several teeth of one officer, gave another a possible concussion and injured his knee, and hit another in the face during the 10:30 a.m. scuffle, said Harbor Police Lt. Jim Krusen. The officers were treated at a hospital and released.

After receiving an anonymous tip, Harbor Police and San Diego County Narcotics Task Force agents approached a pair of men about to board a SouthWest Airlines flight headed for Northern California, Krusen said.

Lena, who is built like a weightlifter, made a dash for the exit. Lena allegedly kicked and elbowed the officers when they caught up to him a short distance away as other passengers ran for cover.

Lena was being held in County Jail in lieu of $29,000 bail. He was charged with battery to an officer with injury and resisting arrest with force.

Lena has three outstanding felony drug warrants from Northern California, Krusen said.
