OXNARD : 2 Men Wounded During Shootout
Two Oxnard men were injured, one seriously, when a Sunday night melee in a south-side neighborhood turned into a shootout, police said.
John Flores, 22, and Carlos Anthony Gonzales, 18, were being treated Monday at St. John’s Regional Medical in Oxnard. Gonzales, who was shot in the arm, was listed in serious condition. Flores, who was shot in the leg, was listed in fair condition.
According to police, the confrontation occurred about 9 p.m. Sunday when an unknown number of people threw rocks and beer bottles through the windows of a house in the 5400 block of Cypress Road.
An occupant of the house came out with a weapon and shooting ensued, police Detective Daniel Christian said.
“It appears that he was fired on and he returned the fire,” Christian said of the occupant, whose name he refused to disclose. “It was extremely lucky that no one was killed.”
Christian said police were investigating, but no charges have been filed.
