COUNTYWIDE : Oil Spill Cleanup Continues on River

Share

While state Department of Fish and Game officers searched the shoreline for injured wildlife, a 300-member crew Monday continued sopping up oil that spilled into the Santa Clara River last week.

Thirty-one animals, mostly ducks, have been killed in the 75,000-gallon oil spill, which occurred early Friday when an 18-inch pipeline cracked near the Valencia Golf Course. About 70 animals were injured.

Officials for Mobil Oil Corp., the owner of the ruptured pipeline, estimate that it will take about two months to clean up the spill.
