HUNTINGTON BEACH : 2 Sought in Attack on Female Joggers

Police were searching Wednesday for two men who attacked two female joggers along a bike path near the Municipal Pier. The men were scared away by residents who heard the victims’ screams, police said.

Huntington Beach Police Lt. Ed McErlain said the women suffered scratches and bruises in the early morning attack. One of them was taken to a local hospital.

The women, both in their early 30s, were jogging past a condominium complex near the pier at 5:40 a.m. when they passed two men standing along a wall at the sand, McErlain said.

As the women passed, the men shouted lewd suggestions. The women ignored them and kept jogging to Beach Boulevard. But when they got to the complex, the men were still there.

It was then that the women were attacked by the two men, who forced the victims onto the sand, choked and beat them, McErlain said.

Residents of the condo complex heard the women’s screams and yelled out their windows. The attackers fled, McErlain said.

One of the men was described as Latino, in his mid to late 20s, about 5 fee, 9 inches tall, weighing 220 pounds, He had a mustache and was wearing a white T-shirt, dark pants and a black baseball-style jacket.

The second attacker was described as white, in his late 20s, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighing about 200 pounds, with short, black wavy hair and a mustache.

At least one of the attackers could have scratches on his face.
