THE SIDELINES : Hlasek, Volkov Advance at Milan

MILAN, Italy —
Fifth-seeded Jakob Hlasek of Switzerland and eighth-seeded Alexander Volkov of the Soviet Union advanced to the semifinals of the Milan Indoor tournament today with straight victories.
Hlasek, a Swiss, had a tougher time, beating Jan Gunnarson 6-0, 7-6 (7-5). Volkov ousted former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash of Australia 6-4, 6-4.
“I can’t remember anyone who played as well as he did. He just did not miss any shot,” Cash said of Volkov.
