FOUNTAIN VALLEY : Law on Trespassing Goes Into Effect

Share

In response to the growing number of parking lot parties involving minors and alcohol, the City Council this week adopted an ordinance prohibiting trespassing on business property after closing hours.

A sign must be posted displaying the ordinance and the hours that the property is closed to the public.

The Police Department has identified the parties as a problem and will use the ordinance to combat them.

“I know most business owners in the city will welcome this,” Mayor George Scott said.

“As a member of the drug abuse committee, I’ve been worried about this issue for years and I am delighted to see it,” Councilman John Collins said of the ordinance.

Violations are a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $1,000, a six-month jail term or both. Councils in other Orange County cities, including Irvine, have either adopted similar ordinances or are considering them.
