ROCK THE BOX: Chalk up another victory for foes of the CD long box. When U2 puts out its next CD, tentatively scheduled for this fall, the Irish rockers plan to go without a long box. According to U2 manager Paul McGuiness: “North America is the only territory where this wasteful practice takes place. By the time the band releases its next album, we expect the long box to be a memory. And needless to say, we will never release another CD with a long box.” . . . And how’s this for a rock double shot? Nigel Harrison (an ex-Blondie member) is now an A&R; exec at Interscope Records while playing bass for local band the Brothers Figaro.
